Importance of Healthy Sleep and Tips on How to Treat Sleeplessness

Adequate sleep is essential for good health. Research studies have shown that lack of sleep may harm the immune system. This in turn affects the body's ability to fight off diseases making it susceptible to a variety of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and neurological conditions.
According to researchers, chronic sleeplessness increases the levels of cytokine molecules in the body. This causes inflammation, and interferes with the chemical balance in the blood - factors that are believed to be behind conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, allergies, anxiety and depression. To achieve good health, experts recommend a balanced diet, regular exercises and healthy sleep. Ignoring the importance of sleep renders the other two useless.

Aside from interfering with the immune system, lack of healthy sleep has been shown to affect the body's ability to regulate hormones responsible for hunger control. This leads to increased appetite, and preference for sugary or high-carbohydrate foods - two factors that cause affected persons to be at a high risk of obesity. In children, sleep loss in children has been linked to poor academic performance.

How to Overcome Sleeplessness
The obvious treatment that people use to deal with insomnia is sleeping pills. According to experts, sleeping pills should be used only a temporary relief. Their regular use can worsen the insomnia, and alter normal sleep patterns. Sleeping pills are also unsafe, and might cause certain health issues. Before you use sleeping pills, you should consult your doctor to find out if they would be good for you.

The best way of treating chronic sleeplessness is using natural methods. These include:

1. Having a regular sleeping schedule
Keeping a regular sleeping schedule can help you to overcome sleeplessness. Set specific times when you will be going to bed, and waking up. Stick to this schedule until this problem disappears.

2. Avoiding sleep during the day
Sleeping during the day leads to sleep loss during the night. Just keep yourself busy during the day so that you would be tired enough to fall into a deep sleep during the night.

3. Maintaining a healthy diet and getting regular exercises
A combination of a balanced diet, regular exercises and healthy sleep promotes overall health and well being. Just make sure you don't exercise a few hours before bedtime. This is because physical activity causes wakefulness.

4. Avoiding alcohol, nicotine and caffeine a few hours before sleep
Alcohol, nicotine and caffeine also promote wakefulness. So, avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and smoking a few hours before bedtime. If you really have to take coffee, go for decaf.

5. Taking time to relax before going to bed
Take some time to unwind before going to bed. You could read a book or do anything else that will relax your mind. Do this everyday. This will train your mind to get ready for sleep.

6. Having a comfortable, dark, cool and quiet bedroom
Make sure your bedroom is conducive to sleep. A comfortable, firm mattress and beddings would be essential in this regard. The room should also be cool and quiet.

7. Avoiding overeating just before going to bed
Eating too much just before bedtime causes discomfort. Hunger also interferes with extreme sleep. Just try to find a balance.

8. Meditation
Mediation or any other mind-relaxing technique can be very helpful in treating insomnia. Find out what works for you, and use it to calm your mind while going to bed.

9. Maintaining the right sleeping position
Lastly, maintain a good sleeping position. Never sleep on your stomach, especially when you have a saggy mattress. This can cause discomfort to your neck, and even cause your back to strain. Always make use of a firm, comfy mattress.

Finding the Best Mattress Store to Get Your Money’s Worth in Sleeping Comfort

It's not every day that you get to choose the mattress where you sleep, which, in a sense, is part of the value of a good one: durability. This is not saying that it's the only consideration when buying a mattress, though. It is reasonable to expect, however, that with today's industry standards even the cheapest mattress will last quite a bit. This means that, once you make your purchase, it will usually take some time before it gets replaced (provided, of course, that it's high quality). Therefore, you should choose a product that is comfortable as it is durable, and one that enhances your sleeping experience. A ruggedly-built or inexpensive mattress that gives you backaches in the morning is more trouble than it's worth. Your comfort (and, by extension, your health) is still the top consideration when you go shopping at a mattress store to replace your old one.

If you're like some people, you might have little to no idea of how to go about with your mattress shopping. The following tips will help you make the best choice so that you'll end up with no regrets about your selection:

1. Shop at a store that you trust.

Finding the perfect mattress is not likely to happen in a yard sale, and a store with a dubious reputation won't help either. Remember: you want to buy one that matches your needs. Shop in a mattress store whose sales staff are not only friendly, but know their products, too. A helpful staff will give you satisfactory answers to all your questions; and even though they aim to make the sale, they should be more than happy to point out the best-suited item for your needs, instead of simply nudging you in the direction of the highest-ticket item in their merchandise lineup.

2. Before making a choice, "drive test" any mattress that catches your eye.

A good mattress is not about appearance (you'll almost invariably cover it up with a bedsheet anyway), so before you spend your precious dollars for the first attractive item that catches your attention, test it to see if lying on it will be something that you'd be comfortable with. Lie on it in a supine position and check how it provides support to your lower back. But don't stop there: turn on your side; lie down on a prone position, or any other sleeping posture that you know you assume at night. At each position, gauge the mattress for comfort. If you share your bed with a spouse, have him or her do the test with you. Buying a bed, in this case, should be a mutual decision, since it's a "mutual" mattress you're buying.

3. Shop for the best value, not the best price.

While, in general, a good product doesn't come cheap, said good product need not be the one with the highest price tag either. A steep price might mean the item just has a few minor advantages over the next one down the lineup, which probably isn't all that worth much, considering. Different stores have different pricing conventions, too: you might find that the mattress you favor buying is cheaper at another location. However, you also need to factor in logistics: the store carrying that "best priced" item you're eyeing may also charge extra for delivery, installation, or customization to your specs. It just might turn out to be a lot pricier than you initially thought it would. Don't trek to a store in another city and spend the gas, if only to shave a few dollars off the price tag.

You May Not Realize How Much Sleep Can Affect Your Weight

No matter what diet plan you are following or how much exercise you get during the day, if you are not getting enough sleep at night, you are not likely to reach your weight loss goal. This is a simple yet well researched fact that far too many people are completely unaware of. According to a research study conducted in 2005 by the National Sleep Foundation, at least 75% of the world's population suffers from not getting enough sleep on a nightly basis.

Does this mean that we are not spending enough time in bed? Chances are that the vast majority of those who do not get the required amount of sleep do not spend enough time each night in their beds, but for a relatively substantial number of this huge number of people the problem may lie in their mattress. As most of us can easily testify to, if our bed is not comfortable we simply cannot get a good night's sleep.

While the medical community may still not completely understand everything that sleep does for our bodies, what they do know is that when you start short changing yourself, it can cause severe headaches and lead to major problems such as becoming disoriented and hallucinating. Even given this, scientists are still at a loss to explain why human beings need to spend approximately 1/3rd of their lives sleeping.

How does all of this tie into weight and weight loss? What science can tell us is that while we sleep our bodies seem to go into a full diagnostic mode, during which our metabolism slows down. During this time, the body looks at where it needs to make use of all the various resources, including fat that it has stored during the day.

In a study conducted at Walter Reed Medical center that involved a test group of nurses, some of which got at least eight hours of sleep each night and some who did not, a major difference was noted in their overall weights and BMIs. The results of this particular study showed that those who actually slept eight hours or more, not only exercised less, but had lower BMIs and weighed less than those who exercised more and slept less.

What recommendations have come from the various studies to help ensure that you are going to get a full eight hours of sleep every night? The most obvious one is to make sure you have set aside the allotted amount of time each night. However, you may find that practicing a relaxation technique such as meditation can help you unwind from a stressful day and prepare both your mind and your body to prepare to enter the sleep cycle.

At the same time and often one of the most overlooked reasons why so many of us toss and turn each night, depriving ourselves of the precious sleep we need is the bed we are laying on. If your mattress is less than comfortable or you wake up in the morning stiff and sore, the time has come for you to buy a new mattress and start getting your full eight hours every night. You will be amazed at how much this can help you shed those unwanted pounds when combined with a good diet and the right exercise.

Why can't I sleep ?

Can't sleep? Tossing and turning, or even flipping the pillow these are things we all do when we can't sleep. To me there is nothing more frustrating when you can't fall asleep, especially you have a big day ahead of you the next day. That thought usually makes it worse, right? You're probably thinking what can I do? I'm sure you've heard some suggestions before, but here are the latest and greatest tips to help you sleep and stay asleep!

We all like to escape the world by going up to our bedroom to unwind from our day. Maybe stretch out in bed catch up on our reading or watch television. That's the first mistake. Use your bed only for sleeping. Sleeping on a good quality mattress is one of the only things you should in your bed (besides a little fun time with your spouse, wink-wink). No working, reading, watching television,or playing video games. That way when it's time to sleep your body knows that it's time to sleep, not relax or work.

Sometimes we might have a "night-cap" or a midnight snack to help us sleep. Well the good news is that having a light snack will help. Dairy product or even turkey contain a natural sleep aid known as: Trypophan do help us sleep. So Granny's remedy for warm milk is right on. Avoid chocolate, it has caffeine in it.
Now the bad news, our friendly night-cap isn't so friendly. Alcohol may seem like it will make you sleep well but it doesn't. It slows brain activity which cause interrupted sleep. Also avoid caffeine and nicotine 5 hours before  you go to bed.

RELAXATION can also help quiet your mind and quiet your body. So don't exercise 4 hours before bedtime. Try deep breathing or meditating before bed. This will help quiet your mind, body and soul.

Sleeping well involves making sure your room is cozy and comfortable. Think of your self as Goldilocks in 3 Little Bears. You want your room  to be not too hot, or too cool. You want your bed to be not too hard or too soft. You want the light to be not too bright, so turn off that television that will keep up for sure. If it's too bright get a sleep mask. If your partner snores get some ear plugs.

Sleep to me is the reward of putting in a hard days work. Its YOUR time to rejuvenate, recharge your battery, catch up on your Z's and get some well deserved peace and quiet. Your mattress is your own personal magic carpet that will transform you mind and body to a peaceful night sleep.

60 x 74 Short Queen Mattress
Click Here To Shop 60 x 74 Mattresses

SHORT QUEEN MATTRESSES

60 x 74 in the mattress world is called a short queen mattress.  Short queen mattresses are a hard to find and are not offered at most mattress stores today.  Typically used for for RV use, but also smaller rooms or cottages.

Click to shop short queen mattresses

Because of the small market low sales volume most local mattress and bedding stores tend not to even offer short queen mattresses as a purchase option. Because of the micro management required you might have to go to a online source to get a quality custom sized mattress like short queens.

HERE ARE SOME GOOD BUYING TIPS.

(1)   Don't buy the cheapest mattress you can find.  You regret it big time.  A quick trip to your local RV supplier will revile some really low quality models that will lack comfort one would demand while on vacation.

(2)  If they don't tell you how thick it is, don't expect it to be thick.  Many will take pictures of thicker versions to make the image of the mattress look better.  4 inch and 6 inch poly foam models will be very firm feeling and will feel much closer to a couch cushion on a wood deck.  If you want your mattress to feel like your home grade mattress you will have to get one from actual home mattress manufacture.

(3)  Avoid RV and Camper suppliers.  Go to direct to the source that specializes in mattresses.  RV and Camper suppliers sell a vast amount of different products for RV industry but they just don't get it when it come to comfort.  They tend to sell the lowest cost item that is not built for the long run.  So in the end because the low quality they will only last a short amount of time and ends up costing more after factoring in quick replacement.

In normal circumstances, people use two or three pillows on their bed. Pillows are being made with different materials like feathers, polyester, down, and a combination of down and feathers. Polyester pillows are the most cost effective types and the durability aspect of these versions has won great appreciation as well. They can be easily washed and all the complications associated with allergic reactions can be averted as well. The cost of goose down variations will always be on the higher side and they can be described as the most expensive pillows available in these days. Mattress Foam Certipur

What does CertiPur foam mean to you ?

  • Low emission (low VOCS)
  • Made without prohibited phthalates
  • Made without ozone depleters
  • Made without PBDEs
  • Made without Mercury, Lead and heavy metals
  • Made without formaldehyde

Do you understand what certipur mattress foam is? It is a mattress and furniture foam that has been tested and certified so that the mattress does not have harmful emissions from chemicals that are sometimes used in the foam that pads mattresses.

CertiPur-US Foam for Mattresses
CertiPur-US
Molly is a mother of two young children and a mother who was involved in a horrible car crash two years ago. Her mother lost the use of her legs and is mostly in bed or in her wheelchair. Concerned at the amount of time that her mother was spending in bed, Molly went shopping for the best mattress to ensure her mother's comfort. One of her friend's told her about Certipur foam and she started doing her research. What she found shocked her to say the very least. She has since changed all the mattresses in the house so that they bear the Certipur seal.

Mattresses with a Certipur seal are polyurethane foams that have been thoroughly checked and tested so that they will not produce any emissions which are from chemicals that are in the mattresses. Some of the chemicals that may be found in polyurethane foams that have not been Certipur certified are chlorofluorocarbons which are chemicals that deplete the ozone layer, mathylene chloride, PBDE fire retardants which have been banned by the US government. Foams are tested so that they are not made of these chemicals even if they are prohibited as they are dangerous.

Other chemicals that are tested are lead and mercury as these metals can be dangerous especially for young children. Lead and mercury poisoning often cause other diseases which result in nerve damage, kidney dysfunction, hypertension among many others. Prohibited phthalates and other chemicals are tested so that if these are present in the foam, then the foam will not be used in mattresses. Formaldehyde is a chemical that causes the air in your home to be poor so that over time, especially young children will have problems breathing and other respiratory issues. All these chemicals will slowly emit in the air and can cause various health problems and complications over a long period of time.

Other factors that are tested in Certipur foam made mattresses that are tested are durability and performance so that the mattress lasts long and will be able to support you as well as be comfortable enough so that you get the rest that you need. Certipur is a voluntary testing program so not all companies will have their mattresses tested. To be on the safe side it is important to get one that has the Certipur seal so that you are sure that your mattress has been tested and is safe from all these harmful chemicals. As for Molly, she now feels safe and knows that her young children and elderly mother are safe because she uses only Certipur mattresses. She is sure that her family is safe from harmful emissions and that they are not in danger from dangerous chemicals or products as their mattresses have been tested.

Sleep Vital for Students

Students, who sleep well, perform well. The importance of sleep cannot be underestimated as it is the rejuvenator of our vital functions in our body. It has been found that at least 8 hours of sleep is vital for students to allow their brains to work to their full potential.
If you are going back to school and to a pile of performance load, you need to be doubly cautious that you do not deprive yourself of the required sleep that your body asks for.

Memory and Sleep
Researchers are very clear about the fact that enough sleep is required to reproduce whatever has been grasped by our grey cells. The best period to consolidate your memory would be the time immediately after your classes. Just a power nap can do wonders to our memory and factual information is retained for a much longer period, if you have adequate sleep.

Sleep and Mattresses
Good mattresses are extremely crucial for good sleep. If you go to the mattress store, you will get an assortment of mattresses to choose from. You need to choose the ones that suit your personality and meet all the requirements of a good mattress. You may take a few days to adjust to new mattresses, but once you are used to it, you can comfortably have a good night's sleep.

Sleep and Health
Sleep is also important to maintain good health and keep yourself fit. It improves your resistance to outside infections and boosts your immunity by notches. When you sleep, all the cells get rejuvenated and come back to their full working capacity, thereby giving you more energy and enthusiasm to work and study.

All in all, sleeping for 8 to 9 hours a day is the wise thing to do, if you are a student who is aiming for good performance that is long lasting. Students, particularly should not deprive themselves of their sleep in their quest for achievements, lest they burn themselves out before they can even blossom to their best.

5 tips to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer

A good night's sleep is far better than any tonic. The sleep pattern of a person is dependent on the mattress he or she uses. A peaceful sleep is what is desired by all. A good mattress will help in better sleep because the pressure will be distributed evenly and the person does not have to toss or turn. Thus, sleep, mattress, new bed all are factors which affect the health of a person.

How to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer? The atmosphere should be right. It is no use trying to sleep in a room with lots of clutter. The negative energy will interfere with the sleep. A peaceful ambience is therefore necessary to fall asleep longer. Soft music also helps to induce sleep. A good mattress will add to the comfort.
The human body needs rest after a busy day. Physical activity is very necessary. A person who does not perform even light weight work will not feel tired and thus sleep will avoid him or her. Therefore exercise is good for the body and helps in having a good night' sleep. It should be remembered that exercise should not be done before sleep time however because the body will be stimulated.
Time schedule is very important. Going to bed the same time every day is the best way to train the body to be consistent. The sleep pattern should not be changed during weekends or holidays, otherwise a person will feel tired and the sleep, mattress, new bed cannot help.
Care should be taken to avoid eating just before going to bed. The body will not be able to sleep when the food is being digested. There are chances of getting stomach cramps also. Caffeinated drinks must also be avoided.
A clean body will help induce sleep. Taking a bath in warm water will make both the body and mind relax. Thus a good, long sleep will be assured. Sweat and smell will certainly interfere with a long sleep. So, it is better to have a shower before going to bed in order to have a good sleep.

Sleep is very essential for maintaining the physical and mental health of a person. The importance of sleep can never be underrated. A good mattress is also very necessary for proper sleep. The sleep, mattress, new bed and duration of sleep decide the energy level of a person.

Cool GelCare Memory Foam Is More Comfortable

The Symbol Reponse G Series
With GelCare and Air Infused Visco Technology

Michigan Discount Mattress Warehouse is excited to carry the all new Response G Series mattress from Symbol Mattress. The G Series uses the most advanced bedding technology available. The science behind the GelCare foam was just patented this year and is already available to help you sleep better and cooler at night. There are three models available, each custom tuned to your sleeping needs.

Response G 13" with Latex

This advanced mattress is the most plush and luxurious in the Response G Series line up. Made with multiple layers of temperature neutral air infused visco elastic memory foam for a very soft and conforming feel. This is on top of 2 inches of natural latex foam that improve the elasticity of the mattress so it responds better to changes in your sleep position. There is also a 2 inch solid block of GelCare memory foam to radiate away body heat for a cool feel.

Response G 11" Temperature Neutral

The next model in this series uses five different layers of foam to create a sleep surface that is soft enough to eliminate pressure points but still firm enough to support your back. You will wake up every morning feeling much better and ready for a successful day - assuming, of course, that you are willing to get out of bed!

Response G 9" GelCare

For people that need the ultimate support for their back, the 9 inch model is your best bet. The increased feel of the high density support foam will definitely keep your back straight. The layers of GelCare and temperature neutral air infused viscoelastic memory foam will keep you cool. This is the firmest memory foam model that we have ever tested, and we were sure to test it many times just to be certain.
